Prof. Anirban Guha: Condolence Meeting
We are extremely saddened to share with you that Professor Anirban Guha, a renowned Professor of Mechanical Engineering at IIT Bombay, passed away on June 10, 2026, in Mumbai at the age of 54. You are invited for a condolence meeting on June 11, Thursday, 4 PM, at ME Auditorium.
Prof. Anirban Guha, was an exceptional academician, scientist, and innovator who exemplified rare, balanced excellence across teaching, research, and real-world technology development. His research seamlessly integrated classic machine design with modern computing, advancing the frontiers of robotics, kinematics, and applied artificial intelligence.
His design acumen left a lasting stamp on multi-sector projects, ranging from textile automation to advanced defense manufacturing. A prolific inventor, he secured numerous Indian patents covering industrial automation and medical design. Recently, Prof. Guha led the landmark design and development of indigenous Remotely Operated Vehicles (Rovers) which are currently deployed for training the Indian armed forces. In recognition of his groundbreaking work, IIT Bombay conferred upon him the prestigious Dr. P. K. Patwardhan Technology Development Award. His ability to bridge the gap between academic theory and industrial application also earned him a formal felicitation by the Textile Machinery Manufacturers' Association (India). Beyond his research, Prof. Guha demonstrated profound dedication to his students and peers which was formally honored with both Departmental Award for Excellence in Teaching and the Prof. A. Jaganmohan Award for Professional Development from the Mechanical Engineering Department.
Prof. Anirban Guha’s legacy endures through the vital technologies he deployed in service of the country, the advanced research methodologies he championed, and the generation of engineers he inspired throughout his career.
